The amplified listening device has been a required piece of equipment in the investigators tool box for many decades. In our work with missing dogs, this device is most helpful for dogs that are thought to be in a precise area and are not moving or traveling great distances.
The bionic ear or ALD can be used when a missing dog is thought to be ill, injured, in pain or in any way incapacitated. All sound in the area is amplified making it easier to hear movement, whimpers, panting and even breathing.
It is best to use this equipment at night and it is usually used in conjunction with spotlighting. In areas with a high degree of traffic and street noise it may be ineffective as all sound is amplified.
Amplified Listening Devices can be purchased from many investigator supply stores as well as from Amazon.
